I bought two packets of this dye as neither of the two red dyes was exactly the colour that I wanted to achieve so I hoped that the two different colours used together would achieve the desired colour. I followed the on-line instructions for machine dying to the letter although used twice as much dye as the instructions required (being two packets instead of one), This was to dye one blouse. The colour was great after the dye process had finished but (in accordance with the instructions) I followed up the dying process with a 40 degree wash. The dye completely washed out leaving me with an item which was exactly the same colour as that before the dying process. This was a complete waste of money, effort and time. I definitely would not buy again. Its a shame that Dylon don't produce a good scarlet red as I would have stuck with their product if they did so.

I hate this product. Hate is a strong word, and I hate this product. "True red" my a**. I dyed a perfectly fine cream colored merino white sweater. Reading some of the other reviews for other iDye colors, one problem that came up time and time again was the product not dyeing consistently (patchy color on the clothing) or the pouch not dissolving. In response to this (AND listening to the Jacquard videos online instead of the incorrect instructions on the packet), I dissolved the red packet in boiling water in a mason jar, washed the sweater first (no detergent since this was a new sweater), keeping the sweater wet (this helps consistent dyeing) put the sweater into the hottest setting available in the washer, added the dye+boiling water into the "detergent add in" part. Added a few more jars of boiling water, since the pouch didn't dissolve in the first jar... or second, or even the third. Took the sweater out the wash... dark orange! Definitely not red at all. With a few more washes, I'm sure the orange will fade. The color went from cream to this orange on the first wash (it'll be lighter once dried and washed a few more times, but still! Definitely won't lighten into a red).

Well, I can't fault this dye. I followed the instructions and restarted the washing machine after about 5 minutes. Then forgot to set the timer and it washed all the way through. This only gave the dye around a total of 15 minutes to agitate and soak. I used two packs for a 9'x12' painter drop cloth, the really heavy burlap type stuff. It was an of white color, almost cream, but I think it was the material's natural color. I washed the drop cloth first, then applied the dye. The cloth looks red too, a nice bright red.RIT DYE: You don't want to use it to dye natural fabrics, like cotton. Rit dye is a general purpose dye that doesn't do too well with cotton, and it will fade with washings or sunlight exposure. However, if you're dying something that doesn't see much light and gets infrequently washed, rit dye is "ok." Aside from being a general purpose dye and not made exclusively for natural fabrics, Rit dye's main deficiency is that it doesn't dye dark enough, unless you use about twice what is recommended. If you're dying cotton or other natural fabrics, Jacquard dye is what you want, and make sure it's for natural fabrics because they offer a "poly" type for synthetics. They also offer two other types of dyes, but they are much harder to apply. So if you want easy, use the "iDye" type.Fill your washer with hot water (as hot as your hot setting gets). I turned my cold inlet off to initially fill the washer.Drop the packs into the water. They dissolve. Mix it well.Add one cup of salt and mix.Add the fabric and let the washer agitate. The longer you let it agitate/soak, the darker the color. Shoot for around 30 minutes. If you don't want to screw up, like I did, leave the washing machine top open (can't do that with front loaders) so it stops before it goes any further than agitate. Reset and let it go again.
